However, Arlo Ultra has mostly lived up to its promised battery life in our testing.<\/p>\n<p>In our experience, Arlo Pro and Pro 2 might last 5-6 months, but Arlo Ultra usually needs recharging around 3-4 months. There are other major differences to look at with <a href=\"https:\/\/smarthomesolver.com\/reviews\/arlo-pro-vs-arlo-ultra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arlo Pro vs Arlo Ultra,<\/a> but we are just focusing on battery life for this article.<\/p>\n<p>Arlo Ultra&#8217;s battery is released on the <a href=\"https:\/\/kb.arlo.com\/000062126\/How-do-I-change-the-batteries-in-my-Arlo-Ultra-camera\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">back of the camera<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the Arlo Pro and Pro 2, the charging cable is magnetic and attaches on the <a href=\"https:\/\/kb.arlo.com\/000062136\/What-is-the-magnetic-charger-that-came-with-my-Arlo-Ultra-camera\">bottom of the camera<\/a>. This is nice for switching out the batteries between cameras.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve used <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2tQegi4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Arlo Pro<\/a> to monitor our front porch starting in January 2017. Even though it was set at a high sensitivity, endured cold Idaho temperatures, and was triggered often for movement, it still had 30% left near the end of June 2017.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-6659 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/smarthomesolver.com\/reviews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Arlo-Pro-2-compressor.png\" alt=\"Arlo Pro 2\" width=\"127\" height=\"140\" srcset=\"https:\/\/smarthomesolver.com\/reviews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Arlo-Pro-2-compressor.png 821w, https:\/\/smarthomesolver.com\/reviews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Arlo-Pro-2-compressor-270x300.png 270w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 127px) 100vw, 127px\" \/>For the sake of this Arlo Pro battery life review, I&#8217;d say 5-6 months is a solid estimate of how long the batteries last based on average usage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE 2018:<\/strong> We&#8217;ve been using Arlo Pro since early 2017, and also added Arlo Pro 2 to the mix. As of late August 2018, the cameras continue working as promised with no diminished battery life.<\/p>\n<p>We even moved homes, so we&#8217;ve been able to test the cameras with a different WiFi environment and setup. So far, the cameras are living up to their original estimates of 6 month battery life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE 2019: <\/strong>We have continued to use the Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 with no problems. The batteries hold a charge for around 6 months with no problems.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Arlo_Pro_2\"><em>Arlo Pro 2<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>As mentioned above, both Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 use the same batteries, which function mostly the same.<\/p>\n<p>Arlo Pro 2 requires outlet power for several features that would normally drain more battery life. You can read more details in our <a href=\"https:\/\/smarthomesolver.com\/reviews\/arlo-pro-vs-arlo-pro-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arlo Pro vs Arlo Pro 2<\/a> comparison.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span id=\"Recharging_Options_for_Arlo_Ultra_Pro_and_Pro_2\">Recharging Options for Arlo Ultra, Pro, and Pro 2<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Once Arlo Pro, <a href=\"http:\/\/smarthomesolver.com\/reviews\/arlo-pro-2-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arlo Pro 2<\/a>, or Arlo Ultra run out of juice, you can simply plug in the camera&#8217;s power cable to recharge the camera.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a special quick charge, and I found that it went from 30% to fully charged in just over an hour. This will mean your camera will never be out of commission during charging.<\/p>\n<p>To remove the battery, press the button on the top of the camera, opening the hatch. The cameras are weatherproof, but the low temperatures\u00a0drain the battery more quickly. If you can temporarily bring them indoors during freezing temperatures, it will help your camera batteries last longer.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Access the live stream only when necessary.<\/strong> The more frequently that you load up your live feed or library of clips, the more battery you are using.
